Get to know Monique Shaw
My journey into the world of photography began more than 35 years ago. This was in the highly technical field of photonics, an area of work involving the use of microscopic camera equipment and advanced lighting techniques to reveal hidden details of natural phenomena.
I moved on to become the first female photographer of the Royal Dutch Navy and then later on again added essential artistic perspective to my career graduating Cum Laude from the Vogue Styling Academy in Amsterdam.
Today, I am an independent professional photographer accepting commissions from companies, public and private institutes as well as private clients.
Receiving the title of ‘City Photographer of Leiden’ in 2016 is the most memorable experience of my career. A book was published comprising all the photographic work I did for the Leiden Municipality during that year. It was a huge honour.
However, my heart still lies in macro photography and despite all, my fascination for the microscopic world of tiny insects remains firm.
Revealing stunning details and structures using a camera equipped with specialised lenses is utterly amazing. A tiny world becomes a fantastic world of wonder.
Who is Patrick Shaw?
I contribute the technical expertise to our team, leveraging my background in computer science from the university of Eindhoven and Utrecht to enhance the focus stacking process. Beyond my technical skills, my unique perspective as someone with autism sharpens my focus on the finest details of our work. With a critical eye for detail, I ensure that our projects are crafted with the utmost precision. I want to astonish people by revealing the wonderful characteristics these creatures have developed through evolution. These details, invisible to the naked eye, come to life through our microscopic way of photographing,
I stay up-to-date on the latest technology, not only for processing our images but also for the equipment we use. This commitment ensures we’re using the most advanced tools and techniques in our projects
